With the part I ordered required to put the dashboard ba ck into the car on order and accidentally shipping to the wrong address, I decided to tackle the engine today. I installed new fuel injectors, spark plugs, cam/crank sensors, EGR valve, IAC valve, PCV valve, and gave everything a super deep clean. New spark plug wires will be arriving next week.
In the two cylinders that were exhibiting misfires (cyl 7 and 8) I found the spark plug wells were entirely filled with motor oil, as these wells are located right next to the oil fill hole in the valve cover I believe the oil is a result of sloppy pouring by the previous owner.
All plugs looked good and healthy except the two that were misfiring (left two in photo).
Next is to reorder the vacuum actuator for the AC controls under the dash, install new O2 sensors, fuel pump, fuel filter, and a fuel filler neck gasket.

Good work. What did you use to clean the engine bay?

Scha-weet job on the engine detail! 10HP added, I’m sure of it.

I used a mixture of vinegar, dish soap, lemon juice, and water as a degreaser in a spray bottle. Then I used an old toothbrush to scrub all the nooks and crannys out including wiring looms and such. Then some black plastic trim restorer on any of the black plastic parts. I also vacuumed probably two pounds of seeds and walnut shells out of the inside of the motor that accumulated over the last 20 years.

Nice. I’ve been slowly getting my new SAAB’s engine bay less terrible looking.
New valve cover gasket and a quick respray of the flaking paint, new timing chain tensioner seals and new transmission cooler line washers have most of the oil leaks fixed.
